Do Robot Vacuums Actually Clean Carpet and Hard Floors Together?

A robot vacuum-mop can help maintain a mixed-floor home, but the answer depends on how it handles the mop and reaches each room. Carpet detection, mop lifting, mop retraction and carpet avoidance are different behaviors. Check the exact model's instructions, then watch its route on your rugs before relying on a schedule.

The Roomba Combo 10 Max provides one official example of a mop that retracts onto the robot. The Roomba 105 Combo illustrates a different approach: avoiding rugs during mopping. These distinctions matter more than a general “works on carpet” label.

Plan the job by room

For a home with carpeted bedrooms and a tiled kitchen, separate room routines may be simpler to understand than one all-purpose schedule. First establish a reliable vacuum route. Then add the permitted mopping routine for the hard-floor area. This makes it easier to identify why a room was skipped.

In a hard-floor living room with one valuable rug, protecting the rug may deserve more weight than maximum coverage. Use the model's supported controls and physically check the boundary during early runs. A map line should not be your only evidence that the arrangement works.

In a rental with movable mats, consistent mat placement matters. If the layout changes, repeat the relevant checks. Treat a new rug as a change to the robot's operating environment.

Read the completion report critically

A completed task is not the same as a personally verified clean floor. Walk through the route and inspect the far side of doorways, rug borders and narrow spaces. Record missed areas separately from poor debris pickup; they are different problems with different possible solutions.

Do not translate a manufacturer's mop-lift dimension directly into a guarantee for every carpet of the same stated height. Actual clearance depends on the whole interaction between the robot and surface. When the arrangement remains uncertain, keep wet cleaning away from that rug until the manufacturer or your supervised trial resolves the issue.
