[ROB26-01] What to Watch Before Robot Brands: Growth Opportunities in the Robot Parts Market

When people look at the robotics market, they often focus first on finished robot brands: humanoid robots, industrial robots, collaborative robots, logistics robots, medical robots and service robots.

But for small and mid-sized manufacturers, the real opportunity may begin before the finished robot. It begins with parts, modules, maintenance, data and supply chains.

A robot is not a completely unfamiliar product. It is a moving machine, a smaller form of industrial equipment, and a precision system equipped with sensors, cameras, motors, batteries and control units.

According to the International Federation of Robotics, global installations of industrial robots reached about 542,000 units in 2024, while the global operational stock reached about 4.664 million units.

As more robots are installed, demand also grows for replacement parts, power systems, sensors, industrial cameras, controllers, maintenance services and software upgrades.

Fact.MR estimates the global industrial robot components market at about USD 16.5 billion in 2025, with a projected increase to about USD 25.8 billion by 2035.

Robots should be viewed by function, not only by brand

Automotive parts can connect to robot motors, gearboxes, sensors and electrical systems. Heavy industry parts can connect to robot joints, actuators, bearings and frames. Electronics suppliers can connect to controllers, industrial cameras, circuit modules and power units. Medical device suppliers can connect to precision motion, safety sensors and medical robot components.

Japan has strong positions in robot joints and precision motion through companies such as Nabtesco and Harmonic Drive. Taiwan connects electronics manufacturing, servers, production capacity and automation channels. Germany’s Schaeffler shows how automotive, bearing and motion technologies can expand into the humanoid robot supply chain.

The key question for manufacturers

The question is not simply, “Can we build a finished robot?”

The better question is: “Which robot function can our existing parts and technologies support?”

The opportunity in the robot parts market starts with the functions that make robots move, see, decide, operate safely and keep running for a long time.

For manufacturers in automotive, electronics, heavy industry, batteries, medical devices and precision machining, the robot market can become a new path for converting existing capabilities into higher-value parts, modules, services and data-driven maintenance.
