For years, the Kindle Paperwhite was the easy default for people who wanted a dedicated e-reader. It was simple, dependable, and closely connected to Amazon’s enormous Kindle bookstore. That decision became harder in August 2026. Amazon raised prices across several device categories, including Kindle. The basic Kindle moved to $149.99, while the Kindle Paperwhite 16GB rose from $159.99 to $199.99. The Paperwhite Signature Edition increased to $249.99. Amazon attributed the wider hardware increases partly to higher memory and storage costs.
